Inspired by a family’s cherished memories of the large cottage style homes along the eastern seaboard from New Haven to New York, this retreat has been built as a dream come true for the family that calls it home. Though the sheer size and square footage of the home might make you think it’s fussy with large vacant rooms, nothing could be further from the truth. Dressed down elegance is on full display with amazing wood floors, tons of heavy white woodwork, large beams and painted navy blue walls with white doors and cabinets are all meant to say unfussy in the most sumptuous of ways.

At every turn, you will see rooms that work, views that will transport you away and small details that make a big difference. As you turn the corner from one room to another, there are surprises that can only give you cause to pause and take a second look. These surprises, sometimes subtle, sometimes daring, like the full regulation racquetball court or the family barber shop with vintage red, white and blue barber pole are combined with more conventional areas of the home, including the children’s attic room and the guest cottage that is just past the reading area and across the bridge.

Interior Designer, Karen Jones, has a favorite saying whenever Parade time comes around: “Bring on beautiful!” Her passion for all things beautiful is a life philosophy, and there is no holding that philosophy back in this stunning home. With all the hallmarks of comfort, the interior design is classic luxury reimagined in an updated casual way. Color and pattern mix and mingle fearlessly in upholstery, pillows, and rugs that all combine to establish a very personal look for the owners. The unexpected pairing of massive amounts of white trim with navy walls give a modern, yet comfortably eclectic warmth to the great room and that modern trend continues throughout the home.

Wood plank floors add the cohesive element to an otherwise unbound approach to the design. Blue and green accented with white and shiplap change their hue and tone room-to-room. Brick accent walls and beamed ceilings add a classically inspired counterpoint, and beautiful window treatments and bright bedding create a fresh and airy feel in all the children ‘s rooms.
